Tim Yates is a sound-artist and musician who makes, builds and finds instruments of all kinds for performance and installation. He has shown his work at the Tate Modern, the V&A and London Design Week. He is the Founder and Director of Hackoustic, a group dedicated to hacking sound and providing a platform for artists, engineers and scientists to show their work. As part of the Hackoustic team he has run numerous events of many types including running a four day festival as part of the WeAreRobots in London presenting over 35 sound-artists, musicians and scientists. He also curated and produced the Hackoustic presence at the first ever Tate Late event at the Tate Modern, filling the first three floors of the Switch House with artists and installations, an event that attracted a crowd of 14,000.

He has recently joined the team at Drake Music as DM Lab Producer working on their R&D programme developing new and bespoke musical instruments and interfaces for people with disabilities. He has also been working with Drake Music to deliver workshops for people with disability in partnership with the London Philarmonic Orchestra, and in teaching the next generation of musicians and workshop leaders to use accessible music technology in partnership with the Amsterdam Conservatory.

He performs experimental and free-improvisation gigs regularly in a variety of groups, including with his group YOAF and is part of the group that runs the Convivium concert series. He is a classically trained guitarist and holds a Masters degree in composition from the Royal College of Music. He is an experienced classical guitar teacher with 14 years teaching experience.
